How to Add a Jam Calendar to Apple, Google, and Outlook
Jam lets you export your calendar as a link, so you can subscribe to it from external calendar apps like Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, or Outlook. This way, you and other people you share this link can view your Jam events alongside other calendars you already use. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you add a public calendar URL (ending in .ics
) to your device or platform of choice:
1️⃣ First, copy the calendar subscription link
Before you begin, make sure you have the .ics calendar link copied to your clipboard. This link can be found on the Calendars section when managing your account or other family members. You’ll paste it into your calendar settings below.
🍎 Apple Calendar (iPhone, iPad, Mac)
On iPhone or iPad:
- Open the Settings app.
- Scroll down and tap Calendar.
- Tap Accounts → Add Account → Other.
- Under Calendars, tap Add Subscribed Calendar.
- Paste the
.ics URL
in the Server field and tap Next. - Customize the name, alerts, etc., then tap Save.
On Mac:
- Open the Calendar app.
- In the menu bar, click File → New Calendar Subscription.
- Paste the
.ics URL
and click Subscribe. - Adjust settings (auto-refresh, name, color) and click OK.
📧 Outlook (Web and Desktop)
On Outlook Web:
- Go to Outlook on the web.
- Click Add Calendar (from the left panel or under “My Calendars”).
- Choose Subscribe from web.
- Paste the
.ics URL
, enter a name, and choose a color/icon. - Click Import.
On Outlook Desktop App (Windows):
- Open Outlook.
- Go to File → Account Settings → Account Settings.
- Click the Internet Calendars tab → New.
- Paste the
.ics URL
, click Add, and give it a name. - Click OK, then Close.
📆 Google Calendar
- Open Google Calendar on your computer (not mobile app).
- On the left, next to Other calendars, click the + icon → From URL.
- Paste the
.ics URL
and click Add calendar. - It will appear under “Other calendars.” Google syncs it automatically, but the frequency may vary.
📝 Note: You cannot add a public calendar from a URL using the Google Calendar mobile app.
⏳ Important note about calendar updates
Once you subscribe to a calendar, your device or app is responsible for how often it checks for updates, we don’t control that part.
- Apple Calendar allows you to set the refresh interval (e.g., every 5 minutes), so updates appear more quickly there.
- Outlook mentions that updates should happen approximately every 3 hours, but it may take more than 24 hours in some cases.
- Google Calendar updates subscribed calendars at its own pace, which can sometimes take several hours. Unfortunately, there's no setting to change this behavior.
If your calendar is not updating as expected, you can revoke and generate a new link in Jam. This will disable the old link, making it inaccessible, and give you a new one to use. You’ll need to re-import the new link in each external calendar where you were using the previous one.
